The Creative Phase

The 13th Floor (renamed; based on the movie by the same name)
I've stepped away from this piece for some time, but now have new plans for it.  I will be adding marionette handles and "strings", as well as a marionette stand which the figures will be sweeping out from under as they take on a life of their own.

Living in the Now (aka Surrender to the Moment)
(More updates on the slow progress; almost done!!  I've changed the angle of the heads and the arms, but just realized in reviewing the photos that I need to change her hair now!  Looking at the photos has been a huge help in gaining distance from the piece and seeing it more correctly which can be difficult now that I've been working on it for 6-7 weeks)

Earlier...

Living in the NOW!
Work in progress; clay original; a mold will be made of the completed piece and a bronze version will be cast from that.

Community in 3D;
Cardboard mock-up and computer 3D rendering; finished piece to be completed in plate steel that will interlock together like a 3D puzzle.

My first commissioned piece nearing
completion; working title 'A warm
summer rain'. The piece is just under 40 inches
tall and will be displayed outside in a lavender garden.

'Toxic-ness of despair' nearing completion of the
sculpting and surface detail work. Surface color
work will come after that.

'Dance' originally started out as a javelin
thrower but the piece lost some of its twist
(which was put in by literally twisting the
block of clay that I cut this piece from).
I will have to go back to the javelin
thrower and get it right next time
(more twist, less hyperflexion of the
waist and more upper body musculature;
and I think it might be more of a figure
this time with partial arms and legs).

Since the earlier picture of 'Dance'
drying (above) it has received a number
of thin coats of terra sigalatta which have
been sponged lightly to reveal the color(s)
underneath. It will be going into the kiln soon.
We'll see how it looks after the firing!!

Adding paper mash over a wire armature.
